JAKARTA – ASWINNEWS.COM – After the massive success of his 2024 horror film Lembayung, which drew more than 1.6 million viewers, Baim Wong returns with his latest work titled “SUKMA.” The film is set to hit Indonesian theaters on September 11, 2025, and has already secured distribution deals in 20 countries worldwide.

The film was officially unveiled during a Press Screening & Conference held at Studio 2, XXI Gandaria City, South Jakarta, on Monday (Sept 8, 2025).

A Horror Story with a Philosophical Twist

SUKMA follows Arini (played by Luna Maya) and her family as they move to a small town for a fresh start. However, their new life turns into a nightmare after discovering an ancient mirror in a hidden room. Mysterious events begin to unfold, culminating in the appearance of a haunting figure, Ibu Sri (Christine Hakim).

Baim Wong emphasizes that SUKMA is far from an ordinary horror film:

“Balancing commercial appeal and artistic idealism was the biggest challenge. This film isn’t just about jump scares—it delves into themes of beauty, immortality, women’s insecurities, and unexpected love,” said Baim Wong.

In addition to directing, Baim co-wrote the script with Ratih Kumala and produced the film alongside David Wong. SUKMA marks the third feature film by Tiger Wong Entertainment.

Luna Maya & Christine Hakim: Breaking New Ground in Horror

For Luna Maya, this is her first collaboration with Baim Wong, and she was drawn to the film because of its relevance to women’s struggles.

“As a woman in the entertainment industry, the pressure to always look young is real. This film highlights the reason behind Ibu Sri’s obsession with immortality,” said Luna.

Veteran actress Christine Hakim, who plays Ibu Sri, shared that the role pushed her out of her comfort zone.

“There were dangerous scenes, including a fight inside a cave. It was a tough challenge, and I’m grateful I took it on,” she admitted.

Featuring a Stellar Cast

Alongside Luna Maya and Christine Hakim, SUKMA stars Oka Antara, Fedi Nuril, Kimberly Ryder, Krishna Keitaro, and even Kiano Tiger Wong and Kenzo Eldrago Wong.

Fedi Nuril, making his horror debut, revealed that his role required deep psychological research:

“I consulted with psychiatrists to understand schizophrenia symptoms and behaviors. That level of preparation made this role extremely challenging and exciting,” Fedi explained.

Ready to Shock Audiences

By combining horror, deep philosophical elements, and intense drama, SUKMA is poised to become one of Indonesia’s most groundbreaking horror films this year.

Editor’s Note:

SUKMA reflects the growing trend of Indonesian horror cinema reaching global audiences. With its symbolic and philosophical approach, the film goes beyond fear to explore society’s obsession with beauty and immortality. We believe Baim Wong’s bold direction sets a new standard for Indonesian horror on the international stage.
