SMK Sehat Insan Perjuangan Mojoagung Jombang Conducts Vocational Competency Test for Maritime Navigation Students
Jombang-swinnews.com – SMK Sehat Insan Perjuangan Mojoagung, a vocational high school in Jombang, held a Vocational Competency Test (UKK) for 12th-grade students in the Nautical Science program (Nautika Kapal Niaga) on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The school invited an external examiner from PT. Jembatan Nusantara, Capt. I Gede Maha Endra P. W, based in Surabaya, East Java, to oversee the examination.
The test was attended by students who had completed the Nautical Science curriculum. It was conducted in several stages, including a written test, practical demonstration, and an interview session. These were designed to comprehensively assess the students’ technical skills and professional competence in maritime navigation.
The principal of SMK Sehat Insan Perjuangan, apt. Titit Artovia Kertowati, M.Farm., Gr., emphasized the significance of the UKK in preparing students for careers in the maritime industry.
“This competency test is one of the ways to ensure our students meet industry standards and are ready to enter the workforce,” she said.
Vice Principal for Curriculum Affairs, Achmad Uzlul Rozik, S.Pd., Gr., noted that the test also serves as a means to improve the quality of vocational education and training.
“By conducting this test, we can assess students’ abilities and provide constructive feedback to enhance their skills and training outcomes,” he explained.
During the exam, students were evaluated on a range of competencies, including navigation, GPS usage, and nautical chart plotting. In addition, teamwork and effective communication were essential elements in the assessment, reflecting the demands of real-life maritime operations.
The results of the test will determine whether the students meet the competency standards required in the maritime sector. Those who pass will be better positioned to secure employment in the industry and perform effectively in their roles.
