SMPN 3 Sindang Quick Response to GETAR Program Planting Vegetables and Productive Greening

INDRAMAYU-ASWINNEWS.COM- The Extended Family of SMPN 3 Sindang, Indramayu Regency, carried out a quick activity to respond (Quick Response) to the GETAR Program (Planting Movement in the Yard) which was initiated based on the program according to the vision and mission of “Indramayu REANG Beberes Indramayu”, as instructed by the Education and Culture Office by planting vegetables and productive environmental greening.

Several types of vegetables were planted on the school terrace. This program was implemented starting Monday, 4/14/2025 led directly by the Principal and carried out by students accompanied by Homeroom Teachers and teachers.

In implementing this program, each class is responsible for planting and maintaining vegetables and plants on their class terrace. Each class is divided into several groups consisting of 5-6 students, so that each class has 5-6 groups of students.

Plants are planted in used mineral water gallons that are cut and given planting media in the form of soil and natural compost. They will maintain and monitor the condition of the vegetables and plants to ensure that they can grow well and healthily until the time for the plants to bear fruit and produce.

The plants and vegetables planted are red chilies, cayenne peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, pak choi, celery, spring onions, long beans, cucumbers and others. Meanwhile, the plants planted are moringa leaves, papaya, turmeric, ginger, temulawak and others.

The implementer of the GETAR program at SMPN 3 Sindang, Teguh Indra Permana, S. Pd. said that the planting movement in the yard is not just a greening activity, but also a strategic educational step in supporting food security and creating a healthy environment.

“From the perspective of a healthy food and environment center, this movement has a very important meaning in building a sustainable living culture. In the form of local food security. By utilizing the yard of a house or school to plant food crops such as vegetables, herbs, or fruits, the community can reduce dependence on market supplies. Ensure the availability of fresh and nutritious food ingredients. Support a healthy diet based on natural products,” concluded Teguh.

Meanwhile, the Principal of SMPN 3 Sindang, Hj. Ani Hanifah, S. Pd. M. Pd. met by the media at the school said that the GETAR program response action was an effort to educate and raise environmental awareness. This movement is also an educational medium, especially in the school environment. Teaching students about the importance of sustainable agriculture. Fostering a love of nature and green living skills. Encouraging active involvement in maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of the environment.

“Even planting in the yard can absorb carbon dioxide and reduce air pollution. Utilizing household organic waste as natural compost. Reducing the use of plastic because the harvest can be consumed directly without packaging. Restoring Micro Ecosystems, because plants planted in the yard create micro habitats for pollinating insects and other beneficial organisms that enrich local biodiversity,” concluded Ani.
