“Here I am with the Police Chief and the Traffic Police Chief again conducting a raid on school children who are bringing motorbikes. Alhamdulillah, it has been monitored to be relatively orderly. Yes, but there are still some who violate,” said Om Zein.
In addition, Om Zein said that school hours for elementary, junior high and high school students in Purwakarta Regency are at 06.00, we ensure that children do not bring motorbikes to school. In our country, the rule is to start at 6 am for elementary, junior high and high school, bring provisions from home. For elementary and junior high schools, they are not allowed to bring cellphones and for those who are not old enough to bring motorbikes, they are not allowed to bring motorbikes to school,” he said.
On that occasion, Om Zein asked the teachers to firmly prohibit students from bringing motorbikes to school and to reprimand any students who violate. It is known that in this activity there were 19 vehicles that were secured at the Purwakarta Police Headquarters.
Meanwhile, the Purwakarta Police Chief, AKBP Lilik Ardhiansyah said that the activity was a step and manifestation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the West Java Police Chief and the West Java Governor, which was continued with the Memorandum of Understanding of the Purwakarta Police Chief and the Purwakarta Regent.
“This activity is between the Purwakarta Police, the Purwakarta Regency Government, and the TNI in maintaining security, peace, and public order. In addition, this activity is an effort to reduce the number of accidents in Purwakarta Regency, “said Lilik.
Regarding the procedure, the Police Chief explained that underage drivers caught crossing the highway will be stopped and asked for information. Furthermore, the vehicle will be taken to the Purwakarta Police to be detained and the parents will be summoned.
“Those that have been confiscated will of course be returned on the condition that the parents must come to the office and report to the police. We (the police) clearly educate the child, but the main role is on the parents. So we educate the parents a lot, “said Lilik.
To note, confiscating vehicles is indeed one of the police’s authorities. This has been regulated in Article 260 paragraph (1) letter ‘d’ of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation (LLAJ Law).
The Police Chief appealed to parents to be more active in fostering and providing good education to their children, especially regarding driving safety. “Children who are still minors are not yet physically or mentally mature enough to drive motorized vehicles. This is not only a violation of the law, but also very dangerous for their lives and others, “said Lilik.
The Chief of Police reminded parents to limit their children from riding motorbikes before they reach a sufficient age. With education, role models and shared concern, it is hoped that they will be able to create a safer environment for the next generation, “said AKBP Lilik.
