Mission of Struggle by Christian FR Ireeuw, Member of DPRK Kota Jayapura

Jayapura – aswinnews.com – Met by the media at the DPRK Kota Jayapura office on Sunday (18/5/2025), after being sworn in as a member of DPRK through the customary council session, Christian FR Ireeuw stated that since his inauguration on May 17, 2025, he has had a mission to fight for the basic rights of indigenous peoples, especially from his native region in the three Skouw areas, namely Skouw, Mabo, and Yambe.

“I have to see and fight for the following:

  1. Cultural identity and tradition
  2. Customary law and institutions, as well as the human rights of indigenous peoples, which must be regulated in the regional regulations of the 10 customary villages in Kota Jayapura.
  3. Participation and consultation in development that prioritizes justice, which must involve the Skouw indigenous community in the decision-making process and implementation of development, including planning and evaluation. Open dialogue between the city government and indigenous peoples is necessary to reach an agreement,” he said to Budi Andre Ireeuw and the media.

“Freedom from discrimination in education, health, and economy. Security and protection are also crucial since the Skouw area is a border region between Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, which is guarded by the Indonesian Navy. To overcome various obstacles and conflicts in Kota Jayapura, dialogue, negotiation, and joint efforts between the government, indigenous peoples, and other relevant parties are necessary,” said retired Christian.
