Former Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas suddenly disappeared from the public spotlight since stepping down from his position in October 2024. Until February 2025, his whereabouts were still a mystery. Several figures, such as Gus Nuril, even mentioned the possibility that Yaqut had left Indonesia. The question is, why did a figure who was previously active in politics and the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) organization suddenly disappear?
On the other hand, the alleged hajj corruption case involving Yaqut also seems to have stalled. The report against him regarding the misuse of the regular hajj quota to special hajj by 50% has been submitted to the KPK since August 2024. However, until now, there has been no clarity regarding further investigation. Is this case indeed difficult to prove, or is there a tug-of-war of interests that has made it stall?
This phenomenon has given rise to various speculations. If Yaqut is truly innocent, he should have the courage to appear and explain his position. However, if he disappears to avoid pressure, of course this raises even bigger questions. After all, transparency in this case is important to maintain public trust in the law and government. If there is no clarity, the public will only become more skeptical of law enforcement in this country.
