A proud moment for Indonesian cinema has arrived from Busan, South Korea. Pangku, the directorial debut of acclaimed actor Reza Rahadian, successfully bagged four prestigious awards at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2025, Friday (Sept 26).

In his acceptance speech, Reza Rahadian expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the international recognition given to his debut film.
“From the bottom of my heart, I thank the Busan International Film Festival 2025 and everyone involved for this recognition. Pangku was born out of collective effort and collaboration from the cast and crew, from pre-production to this very moment,” said Reza.
He further hoped the film would resonate deeply with audiences.
“I wish Pangku will live on in the hearts of viewers, inspiring them through the simple story of a woman who strives for happiness—for herself, her family, and her community,” he added.
Pangku competed in the Vision Asia program, marking its world premiere at BIFF 2025.
KB Vision Audience Award is presented to an Asian film in Vision Asia that garners the highest audience votes.
FIPRESCI Award is given by the International Federation of Film Critics to Asian films with outstanding artistry and innovative talent.
Central Asia Cinema Award is a collaboration between BIFF and the Bishkek International Film Festival, supported by Kyrgyzstan’s Department of Cinematography.
Face of the Future Award, backed by Thailand’s Alternative Universe Co., Ltd., is given to a Vision Asia film that represents the future of Asian cinema.
Produced by Gambar Gerak, the production house founded by Reza Rahadian and Arya Ibrahim, Pangku was co-produced by Arya Ibrahim and Gita Fara. The screenplay was written by Reza Rahadian and Felix K. Nesi.
The film has gone through an impressive festival journey, including:
Winning the White Light Post-Production Award at JAFF Future Project (2024).
Being selected at the Hong Kong – Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF23).
Becoming one of five projects showcased at the Cannes Film Market 2025 through the HAF Goes to Cannes program.
Participating in Far East in Progress, Focus Asia 2025 at the Far East Film Festival.
Receiving post-production support from the Red Sea Fund of the Red Sea Film Foundation.
Following its international triumph, Pangku is scheduled to hit Indonesian theaters starting November 6, 2025. Its release is expected to inspire audiences at home while reinforcing Indonesian cinema’s reputation on the global stage.
