Effata Foundation Partners with BPDAS to Promote Environmental Conservation & Boost Local Economy

JAKARTA – Aswinnews.com – The Effata Foundation Kupang has officially signed a cooperation agreement with the Benain Noelmina Watershed Management Agency (BPDAS) under the Ministry of Forestry, on Thursday (14/8/2025), at the BPDAS head office.

The agreement was signed by BPDAS Head Kludolfus Tuames, SP and Effata Foundation Chairman David Pella, SH.

Commitment to Education, Environment, and Economic Growth

David Pella, SH, Chairman of Effata Foundation Kupang, stated that after more than 30 years of contributing to the education sector, the foundation is also committed to taking an active role in environmental reforestation and improving the community’s economic well-being.

“We are grateful to the Head of BPDAS Benain Noelmina, NTT Province, for making Effata Foundation a partner in distributing betel nut (pinang) seedlings to the community. This initiative supports environmental greening efforts while boosting local economic growth. The demand for betel nut in NTT alone can reach up to IDR 4 trillion annually,” Pella said.

Betel Nut as “Green Gold” of NTT

He further emphasized that betel nut is not only a productive crop with high economic value but also a cultural commodity of NTT—referred to as the region’s “Green Gold.”

“The high demand for betel nut makes it a valuable resource that can improve livelihoods. It contributes to environmental sustainability while directly supporting the economic empowerment of local communities,” he concluded.
