Three Institutions Collaborate to Host “CATUR SIKAP” in Cirebon: Shaping a Strong and Character-Driven Young Generation

Cirebon – AswinNews.com – In celebration of Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day, a historic moment took place in Cirebon. For the first time, three cross-sector institutions joined forces to organize a sporting event: the 063/Sunan Gunung Jati Military Resort Command (Korem 063/SGJ) led by Commander Colonel Inf Hista Harahap, S.I.P., M.I.P., M.Han; the Regional Board of the National Inter-Church Deliberation Body (BAMAGNAS) Cirebon City, chaired by Adirao; and the Cirebon City National Narcotics Agency (BNNK) led by Police Commissioner Tunggul Sinatrio, S.I.K., M.H.

This collaboration was realized through the “CATUR SIKAP” Simultaneous Chess Match for Student Athletes in Cirebon Region III, held at the Korem 063/SGJ Hall on Saturday (August 9, 2025).

The Meaning of CATUR SIKAP

Beyond a battle of strategies on the chessboard, CATUR SIKAP represents four key values to be instilled in the younger generation:

1. Sportsmanship – Upholding the rules and respecting opponents.
2. Integrity – Being honest in play and competition.
3. Solidarity – Building unity across regions and backgrounds.
4. Active Contribution – Using one’s talents to bring pride to the nation.

Messages from the Initiators

Korem 063/SGJ Commander Colonel Inf Hista Harahap emphasized that sports like chess can develop strong character among youth.

“Chess teaches patience, strategy, and long-term thinking. These values are also essential in defending the nation,” he said.

BAMAGNAS Cirebon City Chairman Adirao noted that the event proves how sports can unite people from all walks of life.

“Through activities like this, we aim to foster brotherhood regardless of background, for a peaceful and progressive Indonesia,” he stated.

Meanwhile, BNNK Cirebon Head Police Commissioner Tunggul Sinatrio highlighted the role of sports in steering youth away from drugs.

“Athletes who actively train and compete have a clear direction in life, making them less vulnerable to drug abuse,” he explained.

Support for Student Athletes

The simultaneous chess match brought together top student athletes from Cirebon City and Regency, Indramayu, Majalengka, and Kuningan (Region III Cirebon). Organizers hope this event will motivate them to excel at both the national and international levels.

The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm—competitive yet friendly. The athletes not only gained valuable match experience but also received direct encouragement from three leaders of diverse backgrounds, united by a common goal: to nurture a young generation that is healthy, accomplished, and of strong character.
