The success of the horticultural agroforestry harvest program by the Persada Akmil 92 Foundation in Gunung Hejo Village, Darangdan District, Purwakarta Regency on Saturday, July 5, 2025, is clear evidence of effective collaboration between various parties in building food security and improving community welfare.
This important event was attended by key figures, including the Chief of Staff of the Army (KSAD), General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi, Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein, Director of Vegetables and Plant Medicines of the Ministry of Agriculture, Kasdam III Siliwangi, President Director of PT Pupuk Indonesia and Chairman of the Persada Akmil 92 Foundation.
In the celebration, KSAD General TNI Maruli Simanjuntak emphasized the importance of the involvement of all stakeholders in efforts to improve community welfare through the development of the agricultural and livestock sectors, and the “healthy kitchen” program. He highlighted the cooperation that has been established with the West Java Provincial Government, through a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) to support the development of supporting infrastructure, including roads and access to clean water.
“This Agroforestry program is part of an initiative, aimed at creating national food security and opening up new jobs,” said General Maruli.
According to him, cooperation with PTPN and PT. Pupuk Indonesia is the key to the success of this program, he is also optimistic that this program will reduce Indonesia’s dependence on food imports.
Currently, around 5,000 families have been involved in this program with a target of land management of up to 1 hectare per family in the future, which is expected to provide income above the UMR (Regional Minimum Wage). The integration of animal husbandry (sheep, chickens, etc.) in residents’ homes is also an important part of this program, making Gunung Hejo Village a model of integrated development that can be applied in other areas.
The KSAD also emphasized the importance of a high work ethic and the long process that has been passed until this program achieved its current success. This program is planned to cover various regions in West Java, including Purwakarta, Cianjur, Pengalengan, Pangandaran, and Garut, with a target of 200 hectares per location.
Meanwhile, West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi expressed his appreciation for this program and emphasized the need for a change in public perception of the agricultural sector.
He cited the significant income potential from the agricultural and tourism sectors, and encouraged the role of the TNI and Polri in empowering West Java youth to be actively involved in the agricultural sector.
KDM also conveyed the importance of cooperation between Babinsa (Village Supervisory Non-Commissioned Officers), the West Java Provincial Government, and the Regency Government in supporting this program. He hoped that this program could overcome the problem of poverty in West Java.
At the same location, Purwakarta Regent Saepul Bahri Binzein stated that the Agroforestry program would be an important pillar for food security and tourism in Purwakarta.
Om Zein is committed to developing similar programs in various villages in Purwakarta with a target of at least 3 hectares per village. He also conveyed a number of activities in the context of Purwakarta’s Anniversary which showed a commitment to making Purwakarta an increasingly special area.
According to him, the harvest festival in Gunung Hejo Village is clear evidence of the collaboration and commitment of various parties in building food security and community welfare. This program is expected to be a model of sustainable agricultural development that can be applied by other regions in Indonesia.
