BENGKALIS, RIAU â A radiant display of lights and the reverberation of Qurâanic recitations filled the skies over Bengkalis Regency as the 43rd Musabaqah Tilawatil Qurâan (MTQ) at the provincial level was officially opened on Saturday night, June 28, 2025. The event took place at Lapangan Pasir Andam Dewi and was inaugurated by Riau Governor H. Abdul Wahid, who activated a digital screen to mark the commencement of this yearâs prestigious competition.
Carrying the theme âCoastal Regionâ, this yearâs MTQ brings a refreshing and innovative approach. A majestic astaka (main stage) stood elegantly by the Selat Bengkalis coast, symbolizing the identity of Bengkalis as a maritime region rich in marine resources and cultural heritage.
The coastal theme was chosen not only to reflect local character but also to promote the strategic potential of Bengkalis Regency to delegates and guests from across Riau Province. Visitors and participants were treated to a vibrant fusion of spiritual ambiance and the natural beauty of the beach.
In her welcoming address, Regent of Bengkalis, Kasmarni, expressed her pride in hosting the MTQ after more than a decade. She emphasized the regionâs full readiness to successfully facilitate the week-long event, which runs through July 5, 2025.
âHosting the 43rd MTQ is a tremendous honor for us. We aim to ensure that all guests and participants feel welcomed and well-served by the people of Bengkalis,â said Regent Kasmarni.
She also highlighted that MTQ is not merely a competition of Qurâanic recitation, but a platform to reinforce Islamic values in everyday life. With the theme âInternalizing Qurâanic Values Towards a Cultured, Religious, and Progressive Riauâ, this yearâs MTQ is expected to strengthen ukhuwah Islamiyah (Islamic brotherhood) and foster deeper love for the Qurâan.
Economic Ripple Effects Accompany Spiritual Gains
Beyond its spiritual essence, the MTQ has also generated a positive economic impact. According to Regent Kasmarni, the presence of thousands of guests has significantly boosted local MSMEs (micro, small, and medium enterprises) in sectors such as food, hospitality, and handicrafts.
âThe MTQ brings blessings not just spiritually, but economically. The circulation of money during this event has revitalized local businesses,â she added.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Governor Abdul Wahid, Riau Provincial Parliament Speaker Kaderismanto, Riau Parliament Member Nur Azmi Hasyim, Head of Riau Ministry of Religious Affairs Office H. Mulyadi, and various high-ranking officials from both provincial and regency governments, as well as religious, traditional, and community leaders from across Riau.
Full security support was provided by the TNI (Indonesian Armed Forces) and Polri (Indonesian National Police) to ensure a smooth and safe MTQ.
With its spiritual depth interwoven with rich cultural expressions, the 43rd Riau MTQ in Bengkalis is poised to leave a lasting impression and serve as a vital milestone in the promotion of Islamic values throughout Lancang Kuning Land.
