Vice President (VP) Gibran Rakabuming Raka visited the Indramayu New Market in West Java on Friday morning (May 23, 2025), to assess price stability and the availability of essential goods ahead of Eid al-Adha 1446 H.
The VP was accompanied by West Java Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan, Indramayu Regent Lucky Hakim, and Deputy Regent H. Syaefudin. The delegation arrived at the market around 9:00 AM and was warmly welcomed by vendors and residents who had gathered early.
VP Gibran walked through the market alleys, stopped at several stalls to interact directly with traders, and purchased some vegetables while listening to their concerns and aspirations.
Deputy Regent H. Syaefudin stated that prices of staple goods remain relatively stable. “The price of local beef currently stands at IDR 130,000 per kilogram, while imported beef ranges from IDR 70,000 to IDR 90,000. These are still within a reasonable range,” he said.
He also confirmed that food stocks are sufficient to meet public demand during the upcoming religious holiday.
In addition to price monitoring, the VP also inspected the physical condition of the market. According to Syaefudin, Indramayu New Market was last relocated in 1994 and has not undergone a full revitalization since then.
“As it has been quite a long time, we are now preparing the Detail Engineering Design (DED) for the market’s revitalization,” he explained. He added that revitalizing the market is a regional development priority to improve comfort for vendors and visitors, as well as to support local economic activity.
Following the market visit, the Vice President continued his trip to the Dignified Prosperous Fishermen’s Village in Eretan Kulon Village, which serves as a relocation site for residents affected by tidal flooding.
“After visiting the market, the VP went straight to review the fishermen relocation village,” he concluded.
