Regent Asmar Urges Completion of Selat Akar Bridge to Riau Governor
PEKANBARU –ASWINNEWS.COM – Regent of Meranti Islands, AKBP (Ret.) H. Asmar, firmly requested the acceleration of the completion of the construction of the Selat Akar Bridge in Tasik Putri Puyu District to the Governor of Riau, Abdul Wahid. The request was conveyed directly at the Riau Province Development Planning Coordination Meeting held at the Riau Governor’s Office, Thursday (4/17/2025).
On that occasion, Regent Asmar emphasized that the Selat Akar Bridge is a vital infrastructure that is highly anticipated by the community, considering that this bridge is the main access connecting regions in the archipelago.
“The Selat Akar Bridge is greatly needed by the community. We ask for serious attention from the Governor so that this project can be completed immediately. Don’t let it be delayed any longer,” said Asmar.
According to him, the slow completion of the construction of the bridge has hampered connectivity and has had an impact on economic activities and public services, especially in the Tasik Putri Puyu area which is geographically isolated.
“This is not just infrastructure, but a bridge of hope for thousands of residents who depend on smooth access between regions for their livelihoods,” he added.
As the regional head, Asmar expressed his commitment to continue fighting for the basic needs of the community, especially related to infrastructure that directly affects the lives of residents in remote areas of the island.
Responding to this, Governor Abdul Wahid welcomed the aspirations of Regent Asmar and stated that all proposals from regional heads would be collected and fought for to the central government.
“The results of this coordination meeting will be brought to the relevant ministries. We will fight together according to the priority scale of the needs of each region,” said the Governor of Riau.
Regent Asmar hopes that with the support of the Provincial Government and synergy with the center, the construction of the Selat Akar Bridge can be completed soon and provide real benefits for the people of the Meranti Islands.
