Eid, a sacred moment for family gatherings and celebrating victory, is now colored by unique digital trends. The younger generation, with the desire to appear different and not wanting to miss the moment, forms Eid style trends influenced by FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), FOPO (Fear of People Over You), and YOLO (You Only Live Once).

FOMO: Achieving Perfect Eid on Social Media

FOMO children are hungry for ‘perfect Eid’ that is displayed on social media. They hunt for the latest outfits, instagrammable home decorations, and contemporary culinary to share. This trend is driven by the desire to be recognized, get praise and likes, and the fear of missing out on the uniqueness shared by friends (Smith, Doe & Rowell, 2002). They are driven to buy new clothes, cool accessories, and hunt for viral food for attention-grabbing Eid content.

FOPO: Not Wanting to Lose Unique and Creative

FOPO encourages children to appear different and creative. They don’t want to lose to their friends. They ‘hunt’ for inspiration from various sources, design their own outfits, try new trends, and create unique content that can steal attention (Johnson, Williams & Brown, 2005). They want to show their unique side and creativity, not just imitate common trends.

YOLO: Achieving Maximum Happiness and Fun

YOLO inspires children to make the most of the Eid moment. They seek new experiences, enjoy delicious culinary delights, live unique traditions, and create unforgettable memories. They focus more on personal experiences and happiness than on social status or popularity (Smith, Doe & Rowell, 2002).

*Impact of FOMO, FOPO, and YOLO Trends*

This trend has positive and negative impacts:

– Positive: Stimulates creativity and innovation, encourages the development of the fashion and culinary industries, and strengthens relationships through online content.

– Negative: Increased consumerism, social pressure, and anxiety about appearance. Children are vulnerable to being trapped in virtual comparison and competition (Johnson, Williams & Brown, 2005). They may ignore the true values of Eid and prioritize instant gratification and popularity on social media.

Balancing Trends and Eid Values

It is important for parents to instill Eid values in their children, so that they do not only chase trends but also understand the meaning of togetherness, tolerance, and gratitude. Parents can teach children to use social media wisely, focus on the meaning of Eid, and not get caught up in excessive expectations (Smith, Doe & Rowell, 2002).

*Conclusion*

FOMO, FOPO, and YOLO have a major influence in determining children’s Eid style in the digital era. The challenge is to balance these trends with the noble values of Eid so that this moment remains full of meaning and togetherness. It is important to educate children to be wise in using social media and make Eid a moment to establish strong and meaningful relationships.
