BENGKALIS –ASWINNEWS.COM – The Colok Lamp tradition, which is a characteristic of the Bengkalis community in welcoming the night of 27 Likur, was held again through the 2025 Colok Lamp Festival. This lively event was officially opened by the Deputy Regent of Bengkalis, H. Bagus Santoso, Wednesday night, March 26, 2025, on Jalan Bantan, Senggoro Village, Bengkalis District.

Present at the opening of this festival were the Head of the Bengkalis Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports Office (Disparbudpora), Edi Sakura, and the Deputy Chief of Bengkalis Police, Kompol Anton Rama Putra. Both of them expressed their high appreciation for the enthusiasm of the community in preserving local culture which has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture.

In his statement, Edi Sakura emphasized that the Colok Lamp Festival is not just a tradition, but also has historical and cultural value that must continue to be maintained.

We are very proud to see the enthusiasm of the community in maintaining this colok lamp culture. This festival is not only entertainment, but also a means of education for the younger generation so that they continue to love local culture,” said Edi Sakura

He added that the Bengkalis Regency Government will continue to provide support so that this festival can develop into an annual tourism agenda that attracts tourists from various regions.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief of Bengkalis Police, Commissioner Anton Rama Putra, emphasized that the police have taken steps to ensure security during the festival.

We have prepared security to ensure that this festival runs smoothly and conducively. We also appeal to the public to remain careful, especially in turning on the colok lamps, so that unwanted things do not happen,” said Commissioner Anton Rama Putra

According to him, this festival is also real evidence of the solidarity and mutual cooperation of the Bengkalis community in preserving the cultural heritage of their ancestors.

This year, 27 participants from various villages and sub-districts in Bengkalis Regency took part in the Colok Lamp Festival. With various creations and innovations, they displayed increasingly creative and artistic colok lamp patterns and shapes.

This festival is expected to further elevate the name of Bengkalis as a region rich in culture, as well as become an attraction for tourists from both within and outside Riau.

Let’s maintain this tradition so that it does not die out and continues to develop. Hopefully the Bengkalis Colok Lamp Festival can become an icon of cultural tourism that is known at the national level,” concluded Edi Sakura.
