The first voyage of KMP. TIRUS MERANTI is a breath of fresh air for coastal communities who have longed for better and more efficient transportation access. This ship will serve a strategic route connecting the Alai – Insit – Kampung Balak – Mengkapan areas, which have so far been difficult to reach by land transportation.
In his remarks, Regent H. Asmar expressed his appreciation and gratitude for the presence of this ferry service. According to him, the presence of KMP. TIRUS MERANTI will strengthen connectivity between regions and support economic growth and community mobility.
“With the presence of this ship, we hope that the distribution of goods, agricultural products, and community mobility will be smoother. This is a real form of the government’s commitment to providing the best service for the island community,” said the Regent.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by a number of regional officials, community leaders, and representatives from related agencies. The atmosphere of the activity was lively, accompanied by joint prayers and a ribbon-cutting ceremony before the ship departed.
KMP. TIRUS MERANTI itself is expected to carry out regular voyages according to the schedule that will be announced further by the management. This ship is expected to be a long-term solution to support the development of transportation infrastructure in the Meranti Islands region.
Residents’ Enthusiasm: “Like a Dream Come True”
The community welcomed the presence of this ship with joy. One of the Alai residents, Mr. Rudi, expressed his gratitude. “We have been waiting for convenience like this for a long time. In the past, if we wanted to go to Mengkapan, we had to go far or wait for a pompong. Now, thank God, this ship really helps us,” he said.
In line with that, Mrs. Yuliana from Kampung Balak also felt helped, especially for economic needs. “My child is studying outside the island, usually we have difficulty sending goods or visiting. With this ship, the trip is faster and safer,” she said with a smile.
This maiden voyage is not only the first step in the progress of sea transportation in Meranti, but also a symbol of new hope for the community for a more connected and prosperous life.
