Deputy Regent of Meranti Islands Regency Reviews Minimarket, Checks Minyakita Dosage
MERANTI –ASWINNEWS.COM – Deputy Regent of Meranti Islands, Muzamil Baharudin, S.M., M.M., together with the team from the Industry and Trade Service (Disperindag) of Meranti Islands Regency, conducted a surprise inspection (sidak) at one of the minimarkets located on Jalan Banglas, Selatpanjang, Friday (14/03/2025). This inspection was a follow-up to public reports regarding alleged discrepancies in the measurements of the “Minyakita” packaged cooking oil product.
During the inspection, Deputy Regent Muzamil directly witnessed the inspection process carried out by the Disperindag team. Of the three samples examined—two plastic packages and one bottle—one Minyakita plastic package was found whose volume did not meet the standard, only 970 ml from the supposed 1000 ml.
“Regarding this finding, we will hand it over to the police for further investigation. However, for the time being, we will still allow the goods to be marketed because the need for cooking oil in the community is quite high, especially ahead of the month of Ramadan,” said Muzamil to the media crew after the inspection.
Deputy Regent Muzamil also emphasized that the minimarket is only a retailer, not a product supplier. Therefore, the process of tracing the origin of the problematic distribution of Minyakita will be carried out by law enforcement officers.
“We want to ensure that there is no fraud that is detrimental to the community. This is a serious concern, especially ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr, when the need for basic necessities increases,” he said.
In addition, Deputy Regent Muzamil appealed to the public to play an active role in reporting if they find products that are not in accordance with the measurements, expired, or unfair trade practices in the field.
“We are open to receiving reports from the public. If there is oil that is not measured properly, expired products, or unreasonable prices, report it immediately. We will follow up,” he appealed.
He also invited fellow media to play a role in market supervision. According to him, the role of the media is very strategic in conveying information to the government, including if there are indications of hoarding cooking oil or other basic necessities.
“If anyone is hoarding oil or other basic necessities, please inform us. Don’t let the public be harmed,” requested Muzamil.
Deputy Regent Muzamil emphasized that the Meranti Islands Regency Government is committed to maintaining price stability, stock availability, and protecting consumer rights, especially in facing the holy month of Ramadan until Eid al-Fitr 1446 H.
Also accompanying the review were the Head of the Meranti Islands Regency Industry and Trade Service, Marwan, the Head of the Food Security and Agriculture Service Ifwandi, and personnel from the Meranti Islands Police.
