Regent Nina Agustina Inaugurates Duwur Building as Cultural Heritage Building

INDRAMAYU-ASWINNEWS.COM- The former Resident Assistant Building or Duwur Building on Jalan Mayor Dasuki, Penganjang Village, Indramayu was inaugurated by Regent Nina Agustina as a Cultural Heritage site. This inauguration is an effort for preservation and educational material for the community.

The inauguration took place on Tuesday, (2/18/2025) which was also attended by Dandim 0616 Indramayu Lt. Col. Inf. Yanuar Setyaga, Head of SKPD and Sub-district Head, and witnessed by artists and cultural figures, as well as site caretakers.

Indramayu Regent Hj Nina Agustina who was accompanied by the Head of the Indramayu Regency Education and Culture Office H Caridin said that preserving culture by designating historical buildings as cultural heritage is her commitment during her tenure as Regent of Indramayu. This commitment is an effort to make Indramayu Regency a region rich in cultural treasures and a legacy for the next generation.

Nina added that the Indramayu Regency Government together with the Cultural Heritage Expert Team (TACB) have carried out a series of activities to determine various relics of past buildings to be designated as cultural heritage.

Currently, there are 6 cultural heritages that have been designated, namely the Pendopo Building, the Bondan Ancient Mosque, the Tirta Darma Ayu PDAM (Waterleiding) Tower, the Landraad Building, the Indramayu PLN Building (Gebeo), and the Duwur Building.

The Head of the Indramayu Regency TACB, Dedy S Musashi said that in Indramayu Regency, many ancestral heritage relics have been found since prehistoric times, one of which is the discovery of ancient elephant fossils in Cikawung Village, Terisi District, then during the Bronze Age many menhir rocks were found in various areas of Indramayu Regency.

Furthermore, during the Hindu-Buddhist era, in Indramayu Regency, there were also buildings resembling temples in Sambimaya Village and various pottery findings in villages in Balongan District. Meanwhile, during the Islamic era, many tombs from ancient times were also found. Meanwhile, during the colonial era, the oldest Protestant Christian Church building was found, which had existed since the 18th century.

“Thank you to Regent Nina Agustina who has cared a lot about cultural heritage in Indramayu so that this becomes a legacy for future generations,” said Dedy Musashi, who is also an archaeologist.

According to Dedy, this building used to be the official residence of the Assistant Resident of Indramayu under the Cirebon Residency government. After independence, this building was taken over and used as an army headquarters.

The people of Indramayu know this building as the Duwur Building. The former Assistant Resident of Indramayu Building has a rectangular plan consisting of five parts, each with a roof.

The roof of the building that stretches north-south is in the shape of a Limasan. The front of the building (Facade) is a porch whose roof is supported by columns in front of which there is an entrablature, namely an arrangement of horizontal blocks divided into three parts consisting of architrave, frieze, and cornice.

The floor is made of gray tiles with a combination of yellow and black and some tiles are decorated with striped and geometric motifs. The ceiling is made of wooden planks while the doors and windows are a pair of solid wood models.
