Technological advances have significantly changed the way children play in Cirebon. Traditional games such as plincian, congklak, egrang, gobak sodor, and kelereng are no longer dominant. Children actually spend more time playing digital games on their Android phones.
Many parents and educators in Cirebon are concerned about this phenomenon. They argue that traditional games have educational value, teaching children social skills, sportsmanship, and strategy.
Some factors that contribute to the shift in children’s preferences include:
1. Ease of access to technology
2. Visual appeal and interactive features of digital games
3. Lack of outdoor play space
4. Changes in family lifestyle
To preserve traditional games, several communities and schools in Cirebon have taken the initiative. They organize festivals, extracurricular activities, and outdoor learning programs that promote traditional games.
Experts stress the importance of balancing the use of technology and traditional games. Parents, educators, and communities must work together to ensure that children appreciate and enjoy traditional games while also benefiting from technological advances.
