The family drama film Air Mata Mualaf explores the courage of Anggie (played by Acha Septriasa) in choosing her own path in life, the trials of love challenged by differences, and the strength of her spiritual steadfastness. The film delivers an emotional, intimate, and deeply resonant experience.

Following the release of its first and second trailers, audiences were introduced to dual perspectives: Anggie’s search for self-identity and the emotional turmoil within her family when confronted with unexpected differences.
The second trailer presents an even more intense narrative, highlighting a question familiar to many in modern society: Is this divine guidance… or merely an escape from a wounded heart?
Inner conflict, fear of losing loved ones, anger, and the silence that follows a major life decision are explored through an intimate emotional approach.

The Press Screening and Press Conference for Air Mata Mualaf took place at Studio 2, XXI Epicentrum, South Jakarta, on Wednesday (19/11). The film is set for nationwide release in Indonesian cinemas on 27 November 2025, followed by screenings across Southeast Asia and the Middle East in early December 2025.

A Story of Choice, Family, and Humanity

Air Mata Mualaf highlights Anggie’s process of choosing her life path and how her family responds to those differences—seen through the eyes of her mother (Dewi Irawan), who struggles with fear, uncertainty, and the emotional unpreparedness of letting her daughter go.

The film also introduces a compassionate ustad character (Achmad Megantara), portrayed not as a figure of pressure, but as a gentle guide who understands Anggie’s emotional struggle as a profoundly human experience rather than a forced conversion.

Director Indra Gunawan emphasizes that the film was not created to preach, but to portray human beings standing at life’s crossroads.

“I didn’t make this film to judge who is right or wrong,” Indra said.
“Our focus is to show people as they are—with their fears, love, and courage. Everyone has faced a moment when they must choose their own path, and that is the story we want to tell.”

Producer Dewi Amanda added that the courage to address a sensitive theme comes from its relevance to real life.

“Differences within a family are often seen as threats. But through this film, we want to show that differences can become a space for learning,” she said.
“Guidance or spiritual awakening does not come from human coercion—it comes from God. Anggie chooses without hatred, moves forward without anger, and loves her family deeply despite her decision.”

Actor Achmad Megantara, who plays the ustad, notes that spiritual journeys are never uniform.

“Many people come to faith not out of anger, but because of a calling—guidance that cannot be predicted and is not always understood by others,” he said.
“Through this character, we emphasize that dialogue between faith and humanity must always have space.”

From a family perspective, Rizky Hanggono shared that several scenes resonated with his own personal experiences.

“Some scenes reminded me of my own younger sister. Family conflicts often arise not from hatred, but from fear of losing someone,” he reflected.
“This film reminds us that loving someone does not mean deciding the course of their life.”

A Cross-Cultural Collaboration of Three Nations

Air Mata Mualaf stands as a symbol of international cooperation, involving film industries from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia. The project features international actors Syamim Freida, Hazman Al Idrus, and Matthew Williams, enriching the creative process and reinforcing that stories about family, identity, and the search for meaning are truly universal languages.
