Cimahi, Aswinnews.com – A festive atmosphere filled the Regional Cultural Week of Cimahi City, held at Eco Wisata Cimahi, Jalan Cipageran, on Saturday (September 20, 2025). Starting at 9:00 a.m. local time, the event became a significant momentum to preserve local arts and culture from being eroded by the influx of foreign influences.
The celebration was attended by Cimahi’s Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), including Mayor Lt. Col. (Ret.) Ngatiyana, Deputy Mayor Aditiya, representatives from the Department of Tourism and Culture (Dishubpar), Cimahi’s Regional Secretary, the Cimahi Cultural Council, and the Chairperson of the National Arts and Culture Association (PSBN), Ambu Ririn.
The event showcased a variety of traditional performances, such as the barongsai, folk theater festival, Sunda bubuka workshop, traditional sports, and Cimahi’s featured cultural arts showcase. Each performance captivated the audience, drawing enthusiastic responses from the local community.
In his remarks, Cimahi’s Head of Tourism and Culture encouraged the community to embrace this cultural week as a unifying platform:
“Arts and culture should serve as a bridge of brotherhood, fostering a life of peace, harmony, and prosperity,” he stated.
Mayor Ngatiyana emphasized the importance of cultural pride and heritage preservation:
“This cultural week reminds us not to lose our identity as Sundanese people. I encourage the revival of Sanskrit script across the city—on streets, signage, and advertisements—so that future generations remain connected to their roots,” he said.
He also praised Cimahi’s citizens for upholding the value of gotong royong (mutual cooperation), especially through the city’s cleanliness movement, which reflects the spirit of communal harmony.
Chairperson of PSBN Cimahi, Nurnalina, expressed hope that the event would strengthen public appreciation for traditional arts, particularly the angklung.
“This cultural week can serve as a platform to nurture creativity and ensure the angklung, along with other local traditions, continues to thrive,” she noted.
Meanwhile, PSBN Chairperson Ambu Ririn highlighted the strong public enthusiasm:
“This is a remarkable event and should become a regular program, at least once every three months, to ensure Cimahi’s arts and culture continue to grow,” she added.
Editorial Note
The Regional Cultural Week in Cimahi is more than a ceremonial festival—it is a vital reminder of the need to safeguard Sundanese identity while strengthening community unity. The collective presence of government officials, artists, and citizens in one cultural arena underscores that culture is a bridge of togetherness.
Aswinnews believes that the proposal to make this festival a regular program deserves serious consideration to ensure long-term cultural preservation and the empowerment of local creativity.
