CROSS-COUNTRY HEALTH WALK IN KEDEN HAMLET: HEALTHY AND AFFORDABLE
ASWINEWS.COM – MALANG – Keden Hamlet, Mulyorejo Village, Ngantang District, Malang Regency, held a unique cross-country (farmland/plantation) health walk for the first time. The event was organized to commemorate the 80th Independence Day of Indonesia on Sunday, August 23, 2025.
Hundreds of participants from various age groups, ranging from children, youth, and adults, took part in the event held in the hilly plantation area at an altitude of 600 to 870 meters above sea level (masl). Around 1,800 participants were registered for this inaugural event.
Keden Hamlet Chief, Rudianto, commonly known as Rudi, told reporters, “Participants came from all walks of life, including youth organizations, neighborhood units (RT and RW). The event carries the theme ‘Being Friends with Nature for the Future’. It is also a pioneer agenda for celebrating Indonesia’s 80th Independence Day. Last night, the event started with a cultural performance (Pensi) by the residents, opened by the Head of Mulyorejo Village, Warsono. The series of activities will continue until September 4, 2025, and conclude with a religious gathering.”
To join the walk, residents only needed to purchase a ticket worth IDR 2,000, which included a bottle of mineral water. The route started at RT 26 and finished at RT 28, with the event commencing at 07:00 AM. The walk was officially opened by Hamlet Chief Rudianto.
Besides promoting physical activity, the event aims to introduce nature to the younger generation, cultivate gratitude, and foster love for the environment. Participants had to pass several checkpoints, including steep hills, while enjoying the fresh morning air and scenic views.
The organizers provided various attractive prizes, including 2 refrigerators, 2 washing machines, 1 jumbo wardrobe, 4 gas stoves, 4 irons, as well as hundreds of consolation prizes and door prizes.
This creative initiative resulted from discussions among residents, youth groups, neighborhood organizations, and community leaders in Keden Hamlet. Rudi hopes the cross-country walk will become a regular activity, not only during Independence Day celebrations. Besides promoting simple and affordable exercise, the event also emphasizes local wisdom: protecting nature, flora and fauna, preventing deforestation, and participating in disaster prevention. He stressed that these values should be instilled from an early age to ensure future generations can continue to enjoy sustainable forests.
“Hopefully, this event brings positive benefits for all of us. Let’s start protecting nature from our immediate surroundings for the sake of our children and grandchildren’s future,” Rudi concluded.
The event ran smoothly and safely.
