📍 Banda Aceh – July 27, 2025
A name from the remote area of Aceh is now echoing across the national stage. Azhar, S.Pd., M.Pd., a teacher at MTsN 4 Pidie (widely known as MTsN Beureunuen), has made history in Aceh’s education landscape. Born in Kiran Dayah Village, Jangka Buya Subdistrict, Pidie Jaya Regency, Azhar was awarded the 2025 PGM Award, a prestigious national recognition for inspirational madrasa teachers across Indonesia.
The award was presented by the Chairman of the Indonesian Association of Madrasa Teachers (PGM Indonesia), Ir. H. Yaya Ropandi, S.Pd.I., M.Si., during the 17th Anniversary of PGM Indonesia at the HM Rasjidi Auditorium, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Jakarta.
“This award is not just for me, but for all madrasa teachers who serve and innovate for the future of our nation’s children,” Azhar said with emotion.
Azhar is the embodiment of a dedicated, humble, and resilient educator. Raised in Kiran Dayah, he now lives in Blang Village, Simpang Tiga, Pidie, with his wife and four children. He teaches Mathematics and ICT, but his impact goes far beyond the classroom.
He is also a part-time lecturer at various universities in Aceh and an active leader in educational innovation across different levels.
The PGM Award is just one milestone in his journey. Among his notable achievements:
Azhar attributes his success to his family, especially the prayers of his parents and unwavering support from his wife and children.
“There’s no success without parental blessings, sincere family support, and heartfelt prayers,” he said softly.
He also thanked the Head of MTsN 4 Pidie, the Head of Pidie Religious Affairs Office, and fellow teachers who supported his ideas and innovations.
As an active member of PGM Indonesia, Azhar goes beyond teaching. He helped develop a digital recruitment system for PGM members, became a national seminar speaker in Banda Aceh, and built a network of innovative teachers across Aceh.
“This PGM Award is not the end. It’s a new beginning to keep innovating for a better and dignified madrasa,” he said firmly.
According to PGM Indonesia Chairman, Yaya Ropandi, the award is given to teachers who demonstrate dedication, creativity, and real contributions to improving education.
“This is not just a ceremony. The PGM Award is a real appreciation for teachers who tirelessly nurture the next generation,” Yaya said in his speech.
The awards also honor government agencies, education leaders, and organizations supporting madrasa education.
In closing, Azhar shared his dream:
“I want madrasas to be centers of innovation and progress. It’s time madrasas are no longer underestimated. We can move forward with technology while upholding the noble values of education.”
