Indonesia’s Muaythai Team Shines at the 2025 Asian Muaythai Championship in Vietnam

The Indonesian Muaythai National Team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Asian Muaythai Championship, held in Thai Nguyen, Hanoi, Vietnam, from June 20 to 26. The event served as a crucial preparation milestone for the upcoming 33rd SEA Games in Thailand this December.

Indonesia secured a total of 7 medals — 1 gold, 3 silvers, and 3 bronzes — placing 8th out of 20 participating Asian countries. This achievement marks a historic milestone for Indonesia in an IFMA-sanctioned international event.

Gold Medal in Team Artistic Performance

The gold medal was clinched by Aldento Bara Pratama and Dimas Wardhana in the Male Team Artistic Performance (Mai Muay) category with a score of 9.06, outperforming host country Vietnam (8.16), India (7.86), and UAE (7.86).

Three Silvers from Artistic Categories

• Aldento Bara Pratama also earned a silver medal in the Male Waikru Elite category, scoring 8.86, just behind Ariel Lee Lampacan from the Philippines (8.96).
• In the Female Waikru U23 category, Junetha Melva Christia Tangdilallo won silver with a score of 9.10, trailing Malaysia’s Yan Jia Chia (9.53).
• Junetha Melva also partnered with Stevannie Rejune Christia Tangdilallo to secure another silver medal in the Female Team Artistic (Mai Muay U23) category with a score of 9.16, just short of the Philippines pair (9.26).

Three Bronze Medals in Combat Categories

• Stevannie Rejune Christia Tangdilallo earned bronze in the U23 54 kg Female Combat category after a close semifinal against Vietnam’s Hoa Din Thi.
• Adisty Gracelia Lolaroh took home bronze in the Elite 57 kg Female Combat category, narrowly losing to UAE’s Zineb Bouhmada, a former World Muaythai Champion. Adisty managed to take the match to three rounds with a final score of 2:1.
• Indra Surya Ondeng Hutagalung also won bronze in the Elite 63.5 kg Male Combat category after facing a tough semifinal match against Vietnam’s Man Pham Ngoc.

Leadership Comments and Future Outlook

Opniel Untung T, National Federation Representative and Vice President IV of PB.MI, who led the Indonesian delegation, praised the team’s achievement, highlighting that the predictions of the PB.MI Development Division (Binpres) were spot-on in targeting the artistic categories as medal opportunities.

“Our fighters in combat categories have great potential, but must continue to prepare physically, technically, and mentally. Athletes from countries like the Philippines, Vietnam, and Malaysia are highly experienced and can’t be underestimated,” said Opniel.

He also expressed gratitude to PB.MI Chairman La Nyalla Mahmud Mattalitti and Secretary General PB.MI, as well as Muaythai Provincial Boards of West Java and East Java, for their ongoing support.
