Responding to the wave of layoffs (PHK) that has reached 70 thousand people in just the first four months of 2025, as well as the increasingly strengthening employment practices that are detrimental to workers, various labor elements and popular organizations officially formed the Coalition of Trade Unions – Labor Parties (KSP-PB).
This declaration took place on Tuesday (20/5/2025) at the Joang 45 Building, Jakarta. This coalition is positioned as a new force to fight for the rights of the working class amidst various economic pressures and policies that are not in favor of workers.
KSP-PB is a combination of national-level trade union confederations and federations, farmer organizations, teachers and honorary workers, fishermen, medical personnel, transportation drivers, online motorcycle taxi drivers, migrant workers, domestic workers, content creators, to urban poor communities and sailors. Overall, this coalition represents more than 4 million members spread across 38 provinces and 493 districts/cities in Indonesia.
The initiative to form the KSP-PB is not only a response to outsourcing practices and partnership systems that are considered detrimental to workers, but also to face the discussion of a number of strategic Draft Laws (RUU), such as the Manpower Bill, the Domestic Worker Protection Bill, the Migrant Worker Bill, the Asset Confiscation Bill, and the Agrarian Reform and Food Sovereignty Bill.
“We realize that the workers’ struggle is not enough just through action, but must also be encouraged through political channels and policy advocacy. Therefore, we carry the KLAP strategy: Consolidation, Lobbying, Action, and Politics,” said one of the coalition representatives in the declaration.
This coalition is believed to be a new force in the map of the national labor movement, as well as a bridge between the grassroots movement and the national policy political arena.
