One of the legends of art and culture in the country, Titiek Puspa, passed away on Thursday, 10/04/2025 at the age of 87.

The woman known as the “Mother of Indonesian Music” passed away at the age of 87, after a long life journey, full of work and dedication.

Her career began in a simple place, but full of history at RRI Cirebon.

At that time, she was still a young girl, but her clear and expressive voice managed to captivate radio listeners.

From that small studio, Titiek’s name slowly grew and echoed, until finally breaking through the capital’s music stages.

She won a singing contest in Jakarta in 1954, then joined the Sjaiful Bachri music group.

During her journey, President Soekarno gave her a stage name that would become eternal: Titiek Puspa.

Not only singing, she created songs that became the voice of the people, such as Kupu-Kupu Malam, Bing, Apanya Dong, and dozens of other works. She also wrote poetry, acted, and became a symbol of a strong woman who dared to speak up amidst the challenges of the times.

Eternal Legacy

Titiek Puspa’s works are not just entertainment, but a deep social and emotional reflection of humans.

She dared to voice things that were considered taboo, but wrapped them in elegant and honest lyrics.

Even though she had fought cancer, her spirit never waned.

She continued to work, provide motivation, and attend various cultural events until the end of her life.

Titiek Puspa is a role model for all artists. She not only created songs, but created enthusiasm.

“Indonesia has lost a legend, but its cultural heritage will live on,” said Mukram, a Cirebon Cultural figure who was quite familiar with Titiek Puspa.

Mukram felt sadness and mourning over the passing of Titiek Puspa who had made a golden mark in the history of Indonesian art.

“Her passing is not the end, Her voice will continue to echo on the radio, television, and in the hearts of listeners,” he added, continuing his explanation that Titiek Puspa’s name will continue to be mentioned in every music lesson and art appreciation.

“May Allah SWT accept all her good deeds and place her in the best place by His side,” Mukram prayed.
