Muntai Village Head Appreciates Preservation of Baraan Tradition by Mekarsari Hamlet Residents
BENGKALIS –ASWINNEWS.COM – The Head of Muntai Village, Muhammad Nurin, appreciates the enthusiasm of Muntai Village residents in preserving the Baraan tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation. This tradition involves group visits from house to house during the month of Syawal, strengthening relationships between residents and strengthening cultural values.
“We are very proud to see the enthusiasm of the community in maintaining the Baraan tradition. This reflects our togetherness and concern for the cultural heritage that must continue to be preserved,” said Muhammad Nurin in his statement, Friday, April 4, 2025.
The Baraan tradition in Bengkalis has a deep meaning, symbolizing self-purification and strengthening ties between residents. This activity usually begins with cleaning the house and preparing special dishes such as ketupat, rendang, and various traditional cakes. Residents then gather and visit their neighbors’ houses together, wearing traditional Malay clothes as a symbol of pride in local culture.
The Muntai Village Government is committed to continuing to support activities that strengthen culture and religious values in the community. “We hope that traditions like Baraan can continue to be preserved and become an inspiration for the younger generation to love and preserve our culture,” added Nurin.
With synergy between the village government, community leaders, and residents, the Baraan tradition is expected to remain an integral part of socio-cultural life in Muntai Village, strengthening the identity and togetherness of the community.
