Unrealistic Statement of the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives that Really Hurts the People

It could be because of the shallowness of knowledge and understanding of the suffering of the people, or a genuine expression of hypocrisy, the statement of the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives who claimed to appreciate the government’s budget efficiency policy in using state funds for the welfare of the people.

The low-quality and immoral speech of the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives was actually delivered at the closing meeting of the II Session of the 2024-2025 Session Year at the Indonesian House of Representatives Building, on Tuesday, March 25, 2025. Where previously the Indonesian House of Representatives cq Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives held a discussion on the revision of the TNI Law in a luxury hotel behind closed doors until it was raided by the People’s Alliance to make the public aware of how immoral this behavior is. Meanwhile, the people are also being squeezed by severe economic hardship.

Apart from that, the budget efficiency policy had long before been stated in Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 1 of 2025 concerning Spending Efficiency in the Implementation of the 2025 State Budget and Regional Budget which was signed by the President on January 22, 2025.

So where is the knowledge, understanding and awareness of the Indonesian House of Representatives regarding the policy of concern to carry out efficiency as intended for the welfare of the people? So it is clear that the statement of the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives is a hypocritical attitude or at least rebellion or deception against the people who are always in the name of the House of Representatives. Therefore, it is proven true that the Indonesian House of Representatives no longer represents the interests of the people, but only represents the interests of the party or at least the personal interests of the members of parliament themselves.

In fact, the discussion of the revision of the TNI Law can be carried out in the Indonesian House of Representatives Building which is more than enough to be called luxurious and complete with facilities funded by public money. Therefore, the celebration of the Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives seems very insulting and demeaning to the knowledge of the people who have been betrayed and considered stupid, as if they do not understand the efficiency policy being carried out by the government for and for the people. So the value of the budget cuts made by the government from the APBN and APBD from the 2025 Fiscal Year which is said to be worth IDR 306.69 trillion cannot be trusted for the sake of and in the interests of the people. In fact, from the details of the efficiency, it is stated that IDR 356.1 trillion is the efficiency of spending from ministries and institutions. And IDR 50.59 trillion from the reduction of transfers to regional governments.

The problem is, when the government allows the behavior of the DPR RI which is wasteful by holding meetings in luxury hotels, it not only makes the people distrust the attitude of obedience that must be respected and obeyed, but also makes the people disappointed and can assume the same, not to obey the policies that have been decided by the government. At least there has been disobedience or betrayal of the fair behavior that has been mandated by our constitution.
