Bengkalis Street Lighting Threatened with Disconnection, PLN Gives Time Until March 20

BENGKALIS –ASWINNEWS.COM – PT PLN Bengkalis Customer Service Unit (ULP) has again reminded the Bengkalis Regency Government to immediately pay off the electricity bill for Public Street Lighting (PJU). If there is no payment by Thursday (3/20/2025), PLN will be forced to temporarily disconnect the electricity supply to the PJU starting Friday (3/21/2025).

This warning was conveyed by the Manager of PLN ULP Bengkalis, Muhammad Ashqalany, following the fact that there has been no payment of the outstanding PJU electricity bill until Wednesday morning (3/19/2025).

“We have written to the Regional Government several times. The last letter we sent was to the Transportation Agency on March 17 and to the Bengkalis Regent on March 18,” explained Ashqalany, who is familiarly called Askal.

PLN Bengkalis has also taken accelerated steps by depositing the March 2025 PJU Tax to the Bengkalis Regency Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) earlier, precisely on Thursday (13/3/2025). This deposit was five days earlier than usual, as a form of PLN’s commitment to keep street lighting services on.

“However, until today we have not received payment from the Bengkalis Regional Government,” he said.

Askal explained that this condition is quite concerning, especially during Ramadan when people rely heavily on street lighting at night. Disruptions in lighting can increase the risk of accidents and crime.

“If it is not paid off, according to national regulations, PLN is required to make temporary disconnections. We certainly hope this does not happen,” he said.

On the other hand, the Secretary of the Bengkalis Regency Transportation Agency, Alhamidi, confirmed that they had received a letter from PLN. Currently, he said, the letters have been forwarded to the Road Traffic Division for further processing.

“We have received two letters from PLN and are processing them according to the leadership’s direction,” he said briefly.

Until now, PLN Bengkalis is still coordinating with PLN UP3 Dumai to monitor the progress of the payment of this PJU electricity bill. They hope that the Bengkalis Regency Government will immediately complete this obligation for the comfort and safety of the Bengkalis community.
