Revision of TNI Law to Strengthen National Defense and Soldier Professionalism
Jakarta – aswinnews.com-Revision of Law Number 34 of 2004 concerning the TNI is a strategic step to strengthen national defense, improve the professionalism of soldiers, and ensure civilian supremacy in national and state life, this was conveyed by the Head of the TNI Information Center in his written statement, Sunday (16/3/2025)
The Head of the TNI Information Center emphasized that the revision of the TNI Law aims to perfect the main tasks of the TNI to be more effective without overlapping with other institutions, and also adjustments in facing threats, both military and non-military. “The revision of the TNI Law is a strategic need so that the tasks and roles of the TNI are more structured and adaptive to the challenges of the times,” said the Head of the TNI Information Center.
One of the important points in this revision is clearer regulations regarding the placement of active soldiers in ministries and institutions (K/L) outside the TNI structure. The Head of the TNI Information Center emphasized that the mechanisms and criteria for such placement must be in accordance with national needs and not interfere with the principle of TNI neutrality. “The placement of active soldiers outside the TNI institution will be strictly regulated so that it remains in line with national interests and does not cause overlapping authority,” said the TNI Information Center Chief.
In addition to the aspects of duties and roles, this revision also includes adjusting the retirement age limit for soldiers, considering the increasing life expectancy of the Indonesian people. The TNI Information Center Chief stated that the regulation regarding the retirement age limit is seen from the life expectancy of Indonesians which is getting longer and still productive so that they can still contribute to the country, while maintaining the balance of regeneration within the TNI. “We see that adjusting the retirement age limit can be a solution so that soldiers who still have optimal abilities can continue to serve, without hindering leadership regeneration in the TNI,” explained the TNI Information Center Chief.
The TNI Information Center Chief also reminded the public not to be easily provoked by news that is full of hatred and slander. “The TNI invites all elements of the nation to maintain unity and not be easily provoked. We must continue to maintain national stability together,” he said.
The TNI Information Center also emphasized that the revision of the TNI Law upholds civilian supremacy, this statement is also in line with the statement of the TNI Commander during a hearing with Commission 1 of the Indonesian House of Representatives (Thursday, 13/3/2025) which emphasized that civilian supremacy is a fundamental principle in a democratic country that must be maintained with a clear separation between the military and civilians. “The TNI is committed to maintaining a balance between the role of the military and civilian authorities, while maintaining the principle of civilian supremacy and military professionalism in carrying out its main duties,” said the TNI Commander.
The TNI hopes that the revision of this Law will further strengthen the professionalism and readiness of the TNI in facing various threats, and remain within the corridor of democracy and the rule of law.
