APPKRASI Urges KPU Malut to Impose Strict Sanctions on KPU and Bawaslu Taliabu
TERNATE, MALUT-ASWINNEWS.COM- The Maluku Utara Election and Democracy Monitoring Association (APPKRASI MALUT) considers it necessary to evaluate and replace election organizers in regions that have been proven negligent and caused an increase in the number of Revotes (PSU). Appkrasi assesses that the significant increase in the number of PSUs should be a warning to all parties that election governance in Indonesia still has many loopholes that can be exploited for certain interests.
“Without concrete corrective steps, it is not impossible that the next elections will experience more severe problems, burden the state budget even more, and damage public trust in democracy,” wrote Appkrasi Malut Director Irfandi Mustafa, Saturday, March 8, 2025.
Previously, the Constitutional Court (MK) in the 2025 Regional Head Election Results Dispute (PHPU) decision had ordered the implementation of PSU in 24 regions. Of that number, 14 regions had to repeat the voting at all TPS. The increasing number of PSU shows that there are fundamental problems in election management, ranging from administrative negligence to structured, systematic, and massive (TSM) fraud to weak supervision.
“The consequences of this PSU are not only on the political aspect, but also have a major impact on the state budget. The implementation of PSU requires significant additional funds, including reprinting of ballots, distribution of logistics, operational costs for election officers, to stricter supervision to prevent repeated violations,”
Irfandi Mustafa, who is also a lecturer at Nahdatul Ulama University, Maluku, emphasized that the government and the DPR need to immediately design stricter regulations to prevent negligence of organizers. For example, by setting strict sanctions for the KPU and Bawaslu of Taliabu Island Regency who are proven responsible for administrative errors that lead to PSU.
“The sanctions could be in the form of cutting the operational budget or removing related officials. Thus, there is an incentive for organizers to work more professionally,” he added.
In addition, it is also to strengthen independent supervision. According to him, there must be a stronger monitoring mechanism for the work of the KPU and Bawaslu, including the involvement of civil society in monitoring the course of the regional elections.
