The Importance of Strong Security Awareness for Every UN Personnel in Mission Areas

SENTUL, BOGOR-ASWINNEWS COM – In order to improve understanding of security threats that may be faced in mission areas and encourage a proactive attitude in identifying and avoiding risks, participants of the TNI Garuda Contingent (Konga) United Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) Pre-Assignment Task Force (Satgas) TA 2025 received a briefing from the United Nations Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) on Safety and Security in Mission Areas. The activity took place at the TNI PMPP Sentul Hall, Bogor on Thursday (06/03/2025).

UNDSS or the United Nations Department of Safety and Security which was established on January 1, 2005 has the task of ensuring the security and safety of UN agencies and departments. UNDSS supports and enables the effective implementation of United Nations activities by ensuring a coherent, effective and timely response to all security-related threats and other emergencies. In this activity, the speaker from UNDSS was UN Security Adviser and UNDSS Representative for Indonesia Mr. Allan Mendoza.

The speaker from UNDSS explained about UNDSS Vision and Mission, UNDSS Function, the importance of strong Security awareness for every UN personnel and adjusting behavior to environmental conditions, Security Threats that will be faced in the mission area include sexual violence and harassment, arrest and detention, hostage-taking, demonstrations, Landmines, remnants of war explosives, gunfire, piracy and threats related to armed conflict.
