Meranti Islands Regency on Alert for Forest and Land Fires, Regional Secretary: Prevent Early!
MERANTI – ASWINNEWS.COM – The Meranti Islands Regency Government held a Preparedness Roll Call in the context of Handling Forest and Land Fires (Karhutla) on Friday (28/2/2025). The roll call, which took place at the Regent’s Office Yard, Jalan Dorak, Selatpanjang, was led by Regional Secretary Bambang Suprianto representing the Regent AKBP (Ret.) H. Asmar.
In his remarks, the Regional Secretary emphasized that the Meranti Islands had been declared on emergency alert status for forest and land fires through the regent’s decree. “This roll call is a form of our readiness in dealing with potential forest and land fires in the Meranti Islands Regency,” he said.
It is known that the Meranti Islands are an area prone to forest and land fires in Riau Province. Therefore, Bambang reminded the importance of preparedness from all related parties. “Forest and land fires do not only occur in forest areas, but also in community and company plantations. Therefore, handling them must involve all elements with good cooperation,” he explained.
Bambang also reminded that there should be no attempt to blame each other in handling forest and land fires. “The most important thing is how we contribute together in prevention and mitigation. Blaming each other will not solve the problem, it can actually worsen the situation,” he said.
The impact of forest and land fires, he continued, is very broad, ranging from air pollution due to haze, disruption of transportation activities, to the risk of health problems. “Prevention must be carried out early on. All related agencies and personnel are required to ensure that equipment is ready to use at all times,” he said.
This readiness briefing is a real step by the Meranti Islands Regency Government in facing the threat of forest and land fires and inviting all parties to work together to protect the environment and public safety.
