Nisfu Sya’ban Night, which falls on the 15th of Sya’ban 1446 H or coincides with Friday night, February 13, 2025, is a special moment for Muslims. This night is known as a night full of grace and forgiveness, where Allah SWT opens the door of forgiveness for His servants who sincerely ask.
For many Muslims, Nisfu Sya’ban is a time to reflect on themselves and improve their relationship with Allah SWT. In various narrations, this night is referred to as the time for recording human destiny for the next year. Therefore, many try to fill this night with worship, prayer, and istighfar in order to achieve blessings and clean their “afterlife report” before welcoming the holy month of Ramadan.
Recommended Practices on the Night of Nisfu Sya’ban
There are several practices that Muslims often do on the night of Nisfu Sya’ban, including:
1. Sunnah Prayer – Performing night prayers, such as tahajud prayer and hajat prayer, as a form of getting closer to Allah.
2. Reading Surah Yasin – Some Muslims read Surah Yasin three times with the intention of asking for a long life in goodness, halal sustenance, and steadfastness of faith.
3. Increasing Istighfar and Prayer – This night is a golden opportunity to ask for forgiveness for past sins and ask for blessings in life.
4. Fasting on the Day of Nisfu Sya’ban – Although not obligatory, some scholars recommend sunnah fasting on the 15th of Sya’ban as a form of additional worship.
Achieving a Clean Afterlife Report
The night of Nisfu Sya’ban is not only about ritual worship, but also about self-improvement. Cleaning up the report card of the afterlife means not only increasing worship to Allah, but also improving relationships with others. Asking for forgiveness from others, eliminating envy, and spreading goodness are important parts of achieving the blessings of this night.
By making the most of the night of Nisfu Sya’ban, we can prepare ourselves for Ramadan with a cleaner heart and a calmer soul. May Allah SWT accept our prayers and deeds of worship and make us better servants in His sight.
